The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates

by Wes Moore

At some point during the election season I read something by or about Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a rising star in the Democratic party, and remembered that I had heard about this autobiography. As a young man he had read a newspaper account of another person with his name who had been involved in a murder and ended up imprisoned for life. Unable to let go of how divergent their life trajectories had been, Moore tracked down this “other Wes Moore” in prison and eventually wrote this parallel dual autobiography/biography that shows in stark relief the challenges and risks of growing up Black and male in our country.

One of my main takeaways from this read is deep gratitude that there is such a skilled, committed, smart leader in such a prominent position in government. Wes Moore is really one to watch.
