I can’t remember where I heard about this novel, but it was on the shelf when I went to the library for new fiction so it made the cut. Very interesting structure, alternating points of view of a stepmother and her estranged adult stepdaughter, played out in the uplifting setting of rural rust belt poverty. It passed my test of 1) continuing to care about the characters, and 2) making me look forward to fiction reading at bedtime.
